As second officer you are a licensed member of the deck department and the ship’s navigator and responsible as ships safety officer.

Our shipping company

JR Shipping is a shipping company with a rich maritime tradition. Harlingen is our home port. Our organisation ashore, which coordinates and manages our fleet’s operations, is based there. The JR Shipping fleet comprises container feeder vessels and SeaZip offshore service and support vessels, and the charter sailing ship Clipper Stad Amsterdam. Approximately 30 maritime professionals work at the organisation ashore. Our crewing department is responsible for recruiting and selecting seamen and for the human resources policy in respect of the JR Shipping and SeaZip crew members.

As a second officer of JR Shipping we expect you to:

  • In consultation with the master you have the focus on creating the ships voyage/passage plans with a step by step description in detail of how the voyage is to proceed from berth to berth taking in consider all international- and local rules & regulations and company ISM procedures.
  • Perform leadership to the deck crew related to cargo operations and maintenance deck department according instructions of the chief officer.
  • Inspect, test and maintain safety-, lifesaving- and firefighting appliances and also nautical instruments.
  • Promote the company culture especially towards the deck crew.
